Space Forum – Where Space Meets Digital

18 January 2016

Design & Data has partnered with the Space Forum – a joint summit between the space and digital industries – to promote the event within Germany and secure sponsorship. It will act a national point of contact to encourage companies and organisations to participate in the exciting programme being delivered by some of the world’s biggest names in both sectors. Get in touch!

The first edition of the Space Forum will take place 10th-11th May 2016 at the European Convention Center in Luxembourg (ECCL) and will gather many European Space Clusters, Tech Valley representatives, space business angels, satellites operators and satellite industry suppliers. It will be held in parallel with ICT Spring Europe 2016, one of Europe’s largest ICT summits, which will bring together over 6000 professionals from over 70 countries. The two-day event is being supported by the Government of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, the European Space Agency (ESA), International Space University (ISU), and NEREUS – the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies.

Space is a vibrant and high-growth sector and is an essential part of the global economy. It has revolutionised capabilities in areas such as international communications, global navigation and national security, and has also provided a way to monitor the Earth’s climate. It enables us all to enjoy the benefits of communication, entertainment, and mapping and managing our lives, virtually anywhere on the surface of our planet.

The organisers of the Space Forum are deeply convinced that ICT and space will soon become a single integrated market. Digital investments are currently renewing the enthusiasm for space innovations; digital and internet companies are increasingly communicating on space projects and programmes. A growing number of startups and entrepreneurs are entering this “Newspace” race. Investments and contracts are continuously increasing and could soon represent 10% of the global economy.

Design & Data’s Managing Director Sebastian D. Marcu has been instrumental in bringing the “Newspace” startup scene to Europe by co-organising the 1st European StartupWeekend Space (Bremen) – an event to co-create startup concepts within 60 hours in small interdisciplinary teams. The city of Bremen has recognised the potential of this concept and is funding the creation of an entrepreneurial space hub based in the city to drive disruptive innovation for the benefit of the European space sector.

An exclusive programme of seminars and presentations will be delivered at the Space Forum by some of the world’s biggest names in the space and digital industries, together with major influencers. Some of the first confirmed speakers include Richard Saul Wurman, Founder of TED; Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of CNES; Chad Anderson, Managing Director of the Space Angels Network and Prof. Chris Welch of Director of Masters Programmes of the International Space University (ISU).

As national point of contact for German-speaking Europe, Design & Data is assisting companies and individuals that would like to gain visibility at the space forum either as sponsors, exhibitors or speakers. Feel free to connect with us on how to create visibility for your organisation or project within the context of “New Space”.
