As a new era of human spaceflight began with NASA’s first Commercial Crew, we explore Europe’s contributions to human spaceflight and how new commercial initiatives are enabling services to the International Space Station and beyond.

Dr Hilde Stenuit – ICE Cubes Business Developer, Space Applications Services

Dr Hilde Stenuit is a seasoned research and team leader for Space Applications Services. She received her M.Sc. in Mathematics & Applied Physics and her Ph.D. in Plasma-Astrophysics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). Since then she has been working with Space Applications Services. After working as operations specialist for International Space Station (ISS) modules and for spacecraft (ATV), she did operational coordination for research on National Soyuz missions. Afterwards she started supporting ESA of which more than a decade in a function of ESA ISS Mission Science Office, doing scientific coordination and research planning of the complement of ISS science experiments.

Hilde is currently using her expertise to guide the users of and create opportunities for commercial access to LEO through the first European commercial ISS service called ICE Cubes (International Commercial Experiment Cubes).

Juergen Schlutz – Exploration Coordinator, German Aerospace Center (DLR)

Juergen is an aerospace engineer and project manager with solid background in systems and concurrent engineering for human space missions and space exploration. He combines his passion for space with a professional attitude, the breadth of understanding for programmatic and technical aspects, extensive intercultural experience and enhanced communication and managerial skills. He likes to engage with others and to develop new ideas and solutions from interdisciplinary exchange.

Besides his full-time work and driven by personal passion, he has been initiator and event manager for various educational and outreach activities such as Space Station Design Workshops, Yuri’s Night, Space Generation Congresses, and others.

Yannick Jégo – Business development & Sales Manager at Airbus Defence & Space

Yannick has over 20 years of experience in the space business, starting as engineer on the Ariane 4 Launcher programme, then on the development of the Ariane 5 Launcher and leading the manufacturing of the cryo-engines.Moving to the business development and the incubation of new products and services, he has entrepreneurial experience by participating to the setup of 2 companies. Today he is leading the sales of a 100% self-financed Airbus product, the new ISS external platform Bartolomeo, pioneer in the commercialisation of the ISS.
