Information:
The event comes at a particularly exciting time for the space industry in Scotland, with research conducted by the UK Space Agency earlier this year showing that there has been a 27% increase in the number of space organisations in Scotland. It is believed that the sector could be worth £4 billion by 2030, and the government is aiming to introduce at least one spaceport by the early 2020s, creating opportunities that will help bring about significant economic growth.
At this event, guests will hear from our expert speakers including Paul Wells, Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of Gov Sat, a public-private joint venture between the Luxembourg government and SES, the world-leading satellite operator. Also speaking on the night will be Professor Malcolm Macdonald from the Scottish Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications (SoXSA). Professor MacDonald will focus specifically on satellites in Scotland, looking at manufacturing, their varying uses, and the links between spaceports and launching of small satellites.
A mix of parliamentarians, industry professionals and academics will be invited to attend this event. Invited guests will also have the opportunity to put questions to both the speakers and the panel.
This event is kindly sponsored by Gail Ross MSP.
This event will take place in the Members’ Room.
